Computers for Absolute Beginners (8 sessions)

This course is for those who are new to computers. It explains the parts that make up the computer; what Windows are all about; and an introduction to some popular software packages. The Mystery of Computers is explained away. Some lectures, some hands-on experience, some practical demonstrations. A delight for the new user of computers - no fear!

No computer knowledge, what so ever is required!! A Very Patient Teacher on this course !

Training Plan

1 What is a computer, how does it work, illustrated with simple theory and an old PC which will be disassembled. What is a mouse, floppy disk, hard disk, processor, motherboard, memory, audio card, video card, printer, scanner, & other devices. Laptop, Network, Modem ? USB Port & Digital Cameras etc.
2 Booting a computer, Operating System, DOS, Windows 3.0, 3.1, 3.11 & 95/98 & NT. Microsoft, etc. Windows 2000. MS Windows XP. What are the icons (what are icons) on the desk top, what do they mean and what do they do?

I've Started the PC - how do I stop it!
How do I start using it?
How to use the mouse and keyboard and some practice.

3 Calculator; Paint Brush (Draw and Colour); and Screen Properties.
4 Windows Explorer (Open, Save, etc).
5 Word Pad (Type and Print)
6 Word Introduction - Highlighting, Bold, Italics, Underline, Font Size, Font Style, Coloured Text, etc.
7 Word Introduction - continued ...
8 Software - good and bad, cheap and nasty. Some ideas on how not to mess up your computer for minimum hassle. Data Backups and their importance. Computer Virus, Network, etal.

It is intended to cover most of the above topics. as time allows.
